Goals are supposed to be hard
It’s easy to set a goal while you’re sitting on the couch in your comfy pants binge watching the latest Netflix show. You might even pull out your journal or phone and map a plan to hit said goal. If you take it one step further, you might even text your coach, or hire an online nutrition or strength coach all while sitting nice and comfy on your couch.
At some point on the journey to achieving this goal, things are going to get hard. You will want to quit. You will wonder why you started. You will be filled with all the self-doubt that exists and may even convince yourself you can’t achieve it because it’s hard.
STOP! Do not even think about quitting just because it got hard. “But Kristin and Mary, it’s like REALLY hard!” Yup, we know. You’re right where you are supposed to be!!!
Don’t think about how hard it is. Think about what you are going to do to overcome the obstacles that pop up. That’s how goals are achieved. That’s how champions are made. This is what sets you apart from everyone else.
Working long hours?
- How can you plan your meals better to make sure you always have food on hand that fits your goals?
- Can your coach condense some training days for you?
- Can you train on your lunch break, or earlier or later than usual?
- What can you control in this situation
Suffered an injury or a setback?
- How can you train around it?
- What movements CAN you do?
Life does not stop for our goals. Let us repeat that: LIFE DOES NOT STOP IN ORDER FOR US TO ACHIEVE OUR GOALS. Things are going to come up. Things WILL get hard. You need to be 2 steps ahead of life at all times. Be willing to find another route to your goals. But for goodness sakes, do not stop just because it got hard.
If you’re willing to give up at the first sign of adversity, then did you really even want to achieve this goal in the first place? Maybe it was just a dream, instead. It’s okay to have dreams, but the difference between a dream and a goal is the work that you put in to achieve it. Dreams require zero effort. Goals require immense effort, dedication, and persistence.
You’ve got this!! Just know that it is supposed to be hard.
